Decatur, Georgia, is making significant strides in community development with the launch of the South Housing Village at Legacy Park, a key initiative led by the Decatur Housing Authority (DHA). This project is a major step toward increasing affordable housing options and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

A New Era of Affordable Living
Located at the intersection of South Columbia Drive and Katie Kerr Drive, the South Housing Village will bring 132 new residential units to Decatur. The development includes a variety of housing types designed to meet the needs of families and individuals, including:
- Apartments: Four buildings offering one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
- Stacked Flats: Four buildings, each with six three-bedroom units.
- Duplexes: Three buildings featuring two-bedroom units.
The project is being built in two phases, with 66 units constructed in each phase. The first phase will include two apartment buildings, two stacked flat buildings, three duplexes, and a community center.
Community-Centered Design
In addition to the housing units, the South Housing Village is designed with a focus on community and sustainability. Planned amenities include:
- A community center
- Outdoor recreation spaces
- Community gardens
- A welcoming entry plaza
- A grilling pavilion and several covered pavilions
These features aim to foster a sense of belonging and provide residents with spaces to gather, relax, and engage with their neighbors.
